Salary Tax in Pakistan: How Your Monthly Tax Is Calculated (Rs 200,000 Example)

If you are salaried in Pakistan, your employer deducts income tax from your pay every month. That figure is not a flat percentage of your salary — it comes from a slab table that the Finance Act can change each year. The tax year runs from 1 July to 30 June.

The slabs are marginal

This is where most people go wrong. If your income crosses into a higher band, only the amount above that band's starting point is taxed at the higher rate. Each band is a fixed base tax plus a percentage of the amount above its lower limit.

Example: Rs 200,000 per month

  • Annual taxable salary: Rs 2,400,000
  • That falls in the band 2,200,001 – 3,200,000, so tax = 116,000 + 20% of (2,400,000 − 2,200,000)
  • Tax = 116,000 + 40,000 = Rs 156,000 for the year
  • Monthly withholding is about Rs 13,000

Check your own salary slip

Take your annual taxable salary — after exemptions such as employer medical reimbursement, or up to 10% of basic salary as a medical allowance where no facility is provided — find your band, add the base tax to the percentage, then divide by twelve. A small difference from your slip is normal; a large one usually means the taxable salary or the exemptions were applied wrongly, and it is worth asking payroll to explain.

Salary slabs are rewritten most years, so always use the table for the current tax year rather than an older one.

Zakat Nisab in Pakistan: 7.5 Tola Gold, 52.5 Tola Silver (Simple Method)

Zakat is 2.5% of the wealth that stays above a minimum threshold, called nisab, for one full Islamic lunar year. In Pakistan the confusing part is the rupee figure, because it moves every day with the gold rate. The thresholds do not move:

  • Gold nisab: 7.5 tola ≈ 87.48 g
  • Silver nisab: 52.5 tola ≈ 612.36 g

If you hold only gold, use the gold nisab. If your wealth is mixed — cash, savings, gold and silver together — many Pakistani institutions use the lower silver nisab.

Work out your zakat in four steps

  1. Note the gold and silver rate on your zakat date.
  2. Add cash, bank and savings balances, the value of your gold and silver, money owed to you, and business stock.
  3. Deduct the debts that have become due.
  4. If the total is above nisab and has stayed there for a lunar year, pay 2.5%.

Example: 10 tola of gold at Rs 300,000 per tola = Rs 3,000,000, plus Rs 700,000 in cash and savings = Rs 3,700,000. Minus a due instalment of Rs 200,000 = Rs 3,500,000 net. Zakat = 2.5% = Rs 87,500. Use the rate you actually see on your own zakat date, not this example.

Pakistani Passport & CNIC Photo Size: 35×45 mm (Fix a Bad Photo Free)

Quick answer: a Pakistani passport photo is 35 × 45 mm on a white background. For the online passport upload it must be 350 × 467 pixels, JPEG, under 3 MB. A visa photo is 35 × 45 mm with the face filling about 70–80% of the frame, maximum 350 KB.

The sizes that matter

  • Print (agencies, embassies, paper forms): 35 × 45 mm, white background
  • Online passport upload: 350 × 467 px, JPEG, white background, up to 3 MB
  • Visa photo: 35 × 45 mm, face filling about 70–80%, up to 350 KB
  • CNIC / NICOP / POC: captured live in the app or at the counter

Do not mix the limits — 350 KB is the visa limit, 3 MB is the passport portal limit, and neither of them is a print size.

Why photos get rejected

  • The background is a painted wall or curtain, not pure white
  • The head is too small, or cropped at the top
  • Glasses glare, or a shadow falls behind the head
  • The picture is a screenshot, or an upscaled small image
  • The file is bigger than the portal allows

Fix it free, in your browser

  1. Stand 1–1.5 metres from a plain white wall, phone at eye level, daylight on your face, no flash.
  2. Remove the background and set it to white with the free tool below.
  3. On the same page open the ID studio, choose the passport size, and press “Use photo from the tool above”.
  4. Zoom and move until the head fills the frame with a small margin above the hair, then download the PNG.
